As another school year comes to a close, we are proud to recognize six outstanding seniors who are preparing to take the next step in their educational and professional journeys. From high school graduates embarking on exciting new adventures to college graduates entering their chosen careers, each has demonstrated dedication, perseverance, and a commitment to achieving their goals.
Graduation is more than a milestone; it is a celebration of years of hard work, growth, and determination. This year’s seniors have balanced academics, extracurricular activities, leadership roles, and personal challenges while continuing to strive for excellence. Throughout their educational journeys, they have developed skills, built lasting relationships, and created memories that will stay with them for years to come. Whether they are heading to universities, entering the workforce, pursuing graduate studies, or exploring new opportunities, their futures are filled with promise and potential. In this Senior Spotlight, we are honored to share the stories of six remarkable graduates. Each student has a unique path, distinct aspirations, and accomplishments worth celebrating. Meet Jaylon BrooksA recent graduate from Duncanville High School, who will be attending trade school to learn electrical technology. He decided on this career choice because he enjoys working with his hands, problem-solving, and learning practical job skills that make a difference in people’s lives. I aspire to be an electrician because I am drawn to the opportunity to build, troubleshoot, and service electrical systems while also continually learning new skills and technology. This trade has me interested as it offers an occupation that is guaranteed with a very good future that will offer room for career progression. Outside of the classroom, I am proudest of being able to manage my schedule with my commitments while at the same time obtaining useful job experience through my job and volunteering opportunities. These experiences have given me a strong work ethic, the opportunity to work in a team and a leadership role, and prepared me to enter a successful career in electrical trades.
Meet Akela LarzeiaA recent graduate from Dallas College is already looking ahead to the next chapter of her academic and professional journey. This fall, she will continue her studies at the University of Texas at Arlington to complete her degree, majoring in Business, and to continue to focus on her leadership pursuits and build a stable foundation for her future career. She first became interested in business when she was younger as a result of a burning passion for independence and entrepreneurship. As someone who had sold everything from slime to snacks and consistently searched for unique opportunities to earn money for herself, she learned at a young age how much she loved to have and seek her own opportunities. As the youngest out of 5 siblings, she had a driving force to find her own niche and pursue things that aligned with her ambition. She credits her growth in personal independence, as her most successful undertaking outside of academics, to gaining a deeper understanding of responsibility as well as growing discipline and consistency in her efforts. Stepping outside her comfort zone, creating routines and habits that help her be her best self, such as a bullet journal for organization and self-reflection, and always pushing her limits, has taught her the true definition of consistency and perseverance.
Meet Dayami BlancoA recent graduate of Uplift Heights Health, she will be attending the University of Texas at Arlington to get her degree in Kinesiology while pursuing her goal to become a part of sports medicine and rehabilitation. Her desire to pursue sports medicine and rehabilitation came from witnessing injured athletes get back on the golf course and observing the strength and perseverance it took them to return to play. She wants to provide the kind of compassionate service to assist those wishing to feel stronger and dare to heal and regain what was lost through rehabilitation. Some things she is especially proud of are the times I spent working through clinical rotations at Baylor Scott & White, which I am very grateful for as it provided me with extensive hands-on experience within healthcare setting and gave, greater insight into the care of patients; my roles as soccer manager was also one of the highlights for my years of school, as it allowed me to be behind the scenes providing leaderships, the communication, the team building skills that support those on the field, and enhanced my ability to positively affect others, even in ways that are unseen.
Meet Ky’Shun GreenAs a recent graduate of West Mesquite High School, he is thrilled to be embarking on the next step of his adventure at East Texas A&M University-Commerce, where he will major in Sports Media. His long-standing devotion to sport has fueled a fascination with the storytelling, unity, and sheer grit behind what makes athletes and competition so incredible. While maintaining a strong academic record in high school, he has continuously found a way to nurture his passion and readiness for a career after graduation. Aside from the world of sports, he finds joy in helping those around him, and engaging in activities like fitness and working out. To demonstrate the values of discipline, perseverance, and consistency. He anticipated being able to gain practical skills in media and sports, enhance his understanding of communication and the media, and discover new ways to inspire and relate to others through the influence of sports.
Meet Kaylynn Anderson A recent graduate of The University of North Texas at Dallas has just received her B.B.A in Business Administration, is a significant personal achievement and a family landmark. As a first-generation college graduate, her degree represents years of hard work, resilience, and a driven commitment to achieve success. Her years spent at the University of North Texas at Dallas provided her with many learning opportunities to gain insight into business operations and technology, as well cultivate useful skills for her future endeavors. Now that graduation has passed, this graduate plans to go into Information Technology and is ready to begin her new chapter. She is proud to represent what many strive to attain and anticipates utilizing her newly obtained knowledge to excel in her future professional endeavors.
Meet Aris PrestonA recent graduate of Duncanville High School Collegiate Academy, is excited to embark on a new chapter as he attends Howard University majoring in accounting. His interest in the field comes from a desire to work with numbers and to pursue a viable career in opportunity. Aris was able to be successful at academics, while simultaneously finding new ways to develop as an individual and student. One of his most proud moments was being chosen for DECA, and making state as a freshman participating in Accounting Applications, a recognition of the work and skill he put into the subject. He plans to further develop his abilities in college and hopes to find himself at the top of his field.
