Cedar Crest Golf Course and the I AM a Golfer Foundation are proud to celebrate an extraordinary achievement by one of our own, Stephen “SJ” Sanders Jr., who has been crowned the 2026 Augusta National Drive, Chip, and Putt Champion.

SJ’s journey to Augusta is a testament to dedication, growth, and passion for the game. Like all Drive, Chip, and Putt competitors, his path began at the local level, where he showcased his skills and determination. From there, he advanced through sub-regional and regional qualifying, ultimately earning his place on one of golf’s most iconic stages, Augusta National Golf Club.

On championship Sunday, SJ rose to the moment. Competing against the nation’s best junior golfers, he delivered a poised and impressive performance across all three skills: driving, chipping, and putting. His consistency, focus, and confidence set him apart, securing him the national title and a place in Drive, Chip, and Putt history!

In one of the most heartfelt moments of the day, SJ reflected on celebrating with his family, sharing: “I always get hugs from my dad, but it just felt kind of different when you win.”

Beyond this incredible victory, SJ is a familiar and inspiring presence in the North Texas golf community. A dedicated participant at Cedar Crest, he has developed his game through the I AM a Golfer Foundation’s instructional programming, including PGA Jr. League, where his work ethic and love for the game have been evident from the start.

SJ’s success is a reflection of the power of community, mentorship, and opportunity. From early mornings on the practice range to competing on golf’s biggest stage for juniors, his journey embodies what the game can offer to young athletes who dream big and stay committed.

We couldn’t be more proud of SJ and all that he represents and we're excited to support him through his golf journey.

Next time you see him out at Cedar Crest, be sure to congratulate him and give him a big high five!
