About the Dallas Amateur Championship
The Dallas Amateur Championship is a premier event that brings together amateur golfers from across the region to compete on the storied grounds of Cedar Crest Golf Course. Designed by renowned architect A.W. Tillinghast and opened in 1919, Cedar Crest has hosted significant tournaments, including the 1927 PGA Championship won by Walter Hagen and the 1954 United Golf Association National Open won by Charlie Sifford. Today, the course stands as a symbol of golfing heritage and community pride in South Dallas. Central to this legacy is the I AM a Golfer Foundation, established in 2018 with a mission to catalyze community renewal through the programming, preservation, and promotion of Cedar Crest Golf Course. By providing educational programs, internships, and scholarships, the foundation empowers youth and fosters a love for the game, ensuring that Cedar Crest remains a beacon of opportunity and excellence for generations to come.
