The 2022 Dallas Amateur Championship presented by Omni Hotel & Resorts was another resounding success thanks to golfers throughout DFW. Back-to-back was the recurrent theme as three of the five division winners from 2021 repeated as champions. For their 2nd DAC titles, former Texas A&M standout Drew Evans shot scores of 68-74 to take home the Men's Open division, Rachel Smith of Bedford outdueled Kaci McCarten for the Women's Open title, and Eic Newton took home the Men's Net division title. Texas Golf Hall of Famer Mina Hardin fired a final round of even par to complete a miraculous 9-stroke comeback victory in the Senior Women's division and Shon Schleicher of Plano bested Dallas' Lee Sandlin by two strokes to win his first DAC Men's Senior Open title.
A championship field of approximately 120 male and female participants played the two-day championship at Trinity Forest Golf Club on July 23 & 24. Net proceeds benefited the I AM a Golfer Foundation and its mission of being a catalyst for community renewal and transformation in south Dallas through the programming, preservation, and promotion of the historic Cedar Crest GC.
A very big thank you to Omni Hotels & Resorts for once again serving as presenting sponsor and to Dallas Golf, SMU Cox School of Business, Align Capital Partners, and All Around HVAC Service for leading the way as Premier Partners. The support of the sponsors and players is what makes the DAC flourish and allows for a) the crowning of a Dallas Amateur Champion and b) the IAMGF to achieve its vision of a fully restored, flourishing Cedar Crest Golf Course and community.
